Treating Sleep Apnea Symptoms

Treating Sleep Apnea Symptoms

Sleep apnea can be caused by a variety of things, therefore there are many different sleep apnea cures. Depending on the severity of the apnea, sleep apnea solutions range anywhere from something as simple as losing weight or changing your sleeping patterns to something as extensive as surgery.

It has been said that a lot of the cases of sleep apnea are caused from obesity. Fat cells can easily block an airwave which in return makes it difficult to breath freely. By losing weight the risks of this disorder diminish greatly. The fat cells begin to break away and the airwaves are left with more room to open freely.

Another treatment for this disorder is changing the way you sleep. Change sleeping positions regularly to accustom your lungs to a regular breathing pattern. By avoiding sleeping on your back you leave airwaves open as well. Having a good sleeping time allows your body to avoid any chance of an unstable system.

Avoiding alcohol with this disorder at all costs. If alcohol is consumed the chemicals relax your muscles and make it very difficult for you to control your breathing and airwaves.

In some more severe cases a treatment that is known as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) can be used. The machine is worn in the nostrils and this allows a repetitive flow of air into your nostrils Basically what this treatment is, is a mask and/or breathing machine that can be worn at night or while sleeping to allow for smooth steady breathing and air flowing through the airwaves.

In other even more severe cases surgery is required. If you have an over bite which allows a narrowed throat, deviated septum and/or enlarged tonsils you may need surgery. An oral surgeon will need to be notified immediately. The surgeon will base the kind of surgery needed on what is wrong. Most times surgeries are to correct any abnormalities or deforms.
