Gout Home Remedies That Relive Gout Pain

Hyperuricemia, a condition that is defined as the high level of uric acid present in the system, is the cause of gout.  When uric acid is high in the system, it deposits crystals in joints and surrounding tissues, causing inflammation and eventually pain.   The approach to the treatment of gout includes the use of traditional medication and a preventive dietary approach including the use of gout home remedies.  There are a number of drugs that have yet to be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration which because of their status in the process is not discussed in this article.  This article provides more discussions on remedies that can be used to treat gout.

The more traditional treatments used in the treatment of gout are focused on two main root causes – the effective excretion by the kidney of uric acid through the urine; and the reduced manufacture of uric acid.  Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used to reduce inflammation and pain.  They have known side effects including ulcers and other stomach disorders.  Colcichine is another traditional medication taken by those who cannot use NSAIDs.  The third treatment is the use of steroids.  All three act on reducing inflammation and pain, however all are known to cause some side effects on some individuals.

If you experience attacks of gout, listed below are some quick and easy gout home remedies that you can apply to relieve yourself of the pain and discomfort that comes with this condition:

  • Take plenty of water or fresh juice.  Liquids in the system help dilute uric acid and will cause more frequent urination thereby reducing the risk of crystals forming in your joints;
  • Take calcium carbonate.  Fresh lemon juice is an excellent source of calcium carbonate that counters the presence of uric acid.  Taking daily lemon juice is a good way to reduce the level of uric acid;
  • When hit by an attack, keep the affected area elevated to reduce the amount of blood rushing to the inflamed area thus reducing the pain;

Taking low purine diets is good in lowering uric acid in your system; however, this may result in depleting other vitamins and minerals that you would have otherwise maintained if not for your diet.  Listed below are some supplements that you may consider when dieting.  Vitamins B complex

  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin C
  • Fish oil for Vitamin E and reduction of swelling
  • L-Glutamine –  antacid
  • L-Glutathione – provides renal cleansing from uric acid
  • Tissue salts – prevents uric acid crystallization

Please note that it is always best to consult a dietician or physician when developing a comprehensive treatment for gout, including any dietary changes.  It is recommended that you do that at the soonest possible time to relieve you of discomfort and preempt any further attacks of gout.
