If you are one of the many individuals who has to cope with those horrible pounding headaches every week, you know how hard it is to live with a migraine headache problem. There are over 500 million people all around the world suffering from migraines. Migraines affect mostly women between 18 and 65 years old. They are sometimes so intense that the sufferer will often be nailed to his or her bed lying in the dark for several hours, waiting for the pain to stop, unable to do even the most simple of tasks.

Migraine headaches are triggered by external stimulus which will create inflammation of the veins inside your brain. There are dozens if not hundreds of those migraine triggers, which are proper to each individual.

Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for migraines and scientists are still trying to understand exactly what will cause the inflammation. What we know thought, is that migraines are a chronic problem and that if your parents had the same problem, you will most likely be affected.

There are literally dozens of migraine treatments available. Some are preventive (medication which goal is to prevent migraine attacks) and abortive (medication you take to try to stop a migraine once it has started). If you are looking for home remedies for migraines, then you can always try to apply a compress of cold water on your forehead, while lying on your bed, in the dark. Try to relax. You could also place some lemon crust or freshly sliced onion inside that compress, some people say it works.

The truth is, the best treatment is still prevention. To be able to get rid of your migraines naturally and permanently, the best way is to avoid patterns that will cause those terrible headaches for you. You will need to identify those patterns, and once you have, you’ll need to modify your daily behavior in order to free yourself!
