14 Acne Home Remedies

Home remedies for acne are very popular, most especially for teenagers because they are the ones who are commonly affected by acne. This skin disorder is caused mainly by hormonal imbalances, specifically the increasing rate of androgen hormones in the body which trigger excessive sebum oil. This sebum oil can be trapped on the skin and this irritates the skin. When skin gets irritated it becomes inflamed and this inflammation is commonly referred to as pimples.

Acne is common in adolescents because in this stage of growth and development androgens are at their peak. Androgens may also increase due to constant exposure to stress and environmental toxins. Adolescents often experience stress and they are sometimes exposed to environmental toxins due to their wild behavior. This does not mean that acne may only occur on young people, adults may also have sudden acne bouts in certain stages of their lives. This happens because human hormones are not consistent and somewhat unpredictable at times.

Due to the commonality of this disorder, numerous treatments have been discovered. There are skin care products for acne that are mostly made from synthetic chemicals. These products are effective, but be extra careful in using these because you can never say how your skin might react to certain chemicals. It is much better to have a skin test or consult your doctor before applying these products.

The most trusted treatments for acne are home remedies because they are natural ways to manage acne. Most of these home remedies came from herbs or medicinal plants, thus they can be considered as natural products. These natural remedies have fewer harmful side effects and are believed to be effective in curing and preventing further acne formations. Most of these natural agents can be easily found, and the application of these treatments is very simple. That is why even young adolescents can use these remedies.

Here are the home remedies for acne:

1.    Wash your face on a consistent basis.
2.    Make orange peel paste by grinding it in some water, and then apply directly on pimples. Do this for a couple of weeks for maximum benefits.
3.    Use sunscreen lotion while going out. A major pain, but it’s worth the healthy skin. Get oil free if you can.
4.    Avoid touching your face frequently (easier said than done), you may not know how dirty your hands are. To be safe, wash your hands first or better use clean cloth when you want to touch your face.
5.    Avoid rubbing and squeezing pimples. Yes it is satisfying to see one of them explode, but your skin will be better off in the long run if you just leave them alone.
6.    Try eating more brown rice.
7.    Eat fresh fruits and vegetables regularly.
8.    Drink plenty of water, approximately 8-10 glasses per day.
9.    Try turning oats into a powder and mixing it with water to make a paste for your skin. A lot of work, but it just might be worth it for your skin type.
10.    Cucumber juice is effective in treating acne. Apply the juice on the skin with acne for about 10-15 minutes, and then wash it off with warm water.
11.    Mix garlic with vinegar, and directly apply it on the acne every evening for a couple of weeks.
12.    Strawberries grounded in white vinegar can serve as a cleanser for blemished skin.
13.    A mixture of rose and lemon water helps reduce the swelling of acne.
14.    Rubbing olive oil on acne has been beneficial for many people.

All of these methods will not really work for everyone because each of us has different skin. Although these acne home remedies are natural products, if you have allergies you can possibly suffer mild side effects. To be safe, try to consult your doctor first before using these home remedies for acne.

You are right Lechim. As with most things, a mulch-pronged approach is best!

Thanks for the tips. I think that acne treatment should be comprehensive. A ‘Magic’ pill does not exist.
